my wife was happy to see that a girl won the state wrestling championship in alaska beating all the boys. I am not surprised. it was bound to happen somewhere. I've wrestled girls and know that with training and conditioning they are good - since I got beat.

I am looking for any information regarding three Russian strong girl sisters who were featured in a German/Dutch tv show around 1994-95. They performed some amazing feats of strength including harness lifts of huge concrete blocks. Then the eldest sister, around 17 years of age, actually held back the family car with a rope while it was trying to drive away ! The video segment on this "Ripley's Beit or Not" type of show was proved to be real, much to the amazement of the audience. Does anyone recall this particular show, or know where a video of it could be found ?? THANKS-

m looking for any onformation of Jerry (Gerry) Roseman who lived in Bermondsey London around 1920-1940 and was a boxer. He married into the Taylor family and was washed up on a beach in Scotland during the 1940's. Does anyone know anything about him?

Hello Folks:
It is me Gene again. You all probably remember me as the one who spoke of the Women Vs. Animals matches, the strength of Joan Rhodes, and the female sword fighters. Well, I am going to make this message VERY BRIEF. I would like to know if there any VHS tapes or DVD's of any the following:
1. Women in paintball fights. Does any one know where I can find tapes or discs of women in teams shooting at each other with paintball guns? I have always been fascinated with Girls with Guns. Nothing gets me off like seeing something like this!
2. Women competing in field hockey or ice hockey games. Believe it or not, I find it hard to find some tapes or discs of this, even though there are a lot of women playing hockey.
3. Women competing in roller skating or ice skating derbies. I read your entry about female combat skating dated June 8, 2005. Immediately, I thought it was interesting. I would like to view tapes or discs that have any of these competitions.
4. Women in sword fights. I already told you about this one. Where can I find tapes or discs on any of this?
5. Women in pillow fights. I read your entry about this that was dated April 2, 2005. I thought it was quite amazing. I would like to see more on this. Does any one know where I can find tapes or discs about any of these fights?
6. Women playing tackle football. I am referring to American-style football, the same kind that is played by men in the National Football League. I heard that there are tapes and discs of a number of women's teams playing tackle football, including those of the not-so-formal Lingerie Bowl (www.lingeriebowl.com). I would like to know if anyone else has any videos of the women's games.
7. Women in sumo wrestling. Yes, believe or not, I have gotten more and more curious about women in sumo wrestling matches. I would love to know where I can find tapes or discs of each of these matches as well.
Well, folks, that is it for now. As you can tell, I like OTHER women's sports too than just wrestling. I guess I just have an attraction to tough women in general. This is in reply to the queries about Joan Rhodes in Sept 04.
There are two (and maybe three) British Pathe films of Joan Rhodes on the ITN archive site.
She appears towards the end of a 1947 film "Your World in Nine Minutes" and does a couple of displays of strength. A 1941 film called "Strong Woman - aka Josie Terena" (her real name according to this site) shows her, at 19, doing a number of strength feats, including resisting the pull of four men.
There is also 1938 film called "Strong Girl" which features a 16 year-old, but called Lillian Southcote. She has a similar build and does a number of similar things, which include resisting the pull of a mere 2 men (but then she was 16). It would be interesting to know whether other think this is Joan Rhodes or not.

In the Iron Ladies article there is a mention and photo of Caroline Bauman.
She is my Great Great Aunt and my family is just starting to research information about her. We know she was born 19,April 1889 in Austria and died at the age of 85 on Nashville, Tenn. 25,November 1974. She toured the U.S. at age 19 as The Woman Fandow. In 1911 an article was done on her as Girl Hercules. At one point she toured as The Strongest Woman on Earth. She trained under Prof. Attla in New York. She was a skilled boxer and boxed Eddie Toy in an exhibition. This is all we know. Any info, pictures, articles, etc. is greatly appreciated.

I have one quick question, this time. Does anyone have any videos or photographs of women fighting with swords? I would like to know of where I can purchase videos of women's swordfighting matches, as well as sumo wrestling matches. Also, I have been told that some women are even wrestling in animal feces - such as horse manure and cow dung. Does anyone have any vidoes or photographs of this as well? I LOVE your Internet website. I think it is very informative, and it has great photographs of the strongwomen of yore. They seemed to do all kinds of weird stuff back in those days. I AM ALSO GLAD THAT YOUR ADD ON/ MESSAGE BOARD IS BACK UP. FINALLY!! THANK YOU!!
I am particularly curious about the late great Joan Rhodes. I thought she was one VERY strong woman. Was she really some robot or android that was made out of steel or something? Did she use STEROIDS? How is it that she had no problems bending steel bars with her bare hands, on her knees, on her legs or on her head, but several BIG, STRONG MEN were not able to do these same types of things TOGETHER on just one steel bar? Even though her legs, arms and abdomen did not appear to have any OVERBULGING muscles like today’s strongwomen, she could still do some almost impossible things. Man, I would have hated to be on a public stage with her in front of all those people while competing with her in all those feats of strength. I would have been embarrassed, and possibly even laughed off the face of this Earth.
I was told that there was a videotaped performance of her on BBC (British Broadcasting Company, or something like that) of her with an automobile. She stripped the car of all its parts with none other than just her bare hands. That sounds really amazing! I was told she first tore the front and rear bumpers off, then the doors off, and then the hood and trunk lids off. I was later told that she proceeded further in the hood and actually snatched the main engine block out of the car - with her bare hands, I remind you - and later took that apart. However, that still was not enough, for she also snatched the wheels off too.
Where can I find photographs or videos of this particular show that Ms. Rhodes held? I have been looking ALL OVER the Internet for this, but I could not find any still or motion pictures of her stripping this car. If you happen to find any visuals of her stripping this car, please email them to me. Also, do you have any more pictures or videos of Ada Ash? She performed feats such as wrestling alligators, lifting and carrying other animals, and physically cradling her husband. She passed away a few years ago. Did Ms. Rhodes ever wrestle, lift or carry any animals too, like Ms. Ash did? If so, then please email any answers, comments or visuals about Ms. Rhodes or Ms. Ash to me.

Interesting site. I found it by chance while looking for info on Madame de Saint-Baslemont de Neuville. I am a Fencer and not a wrestler of any type but do understand the 'battle lust' described. I love to fight and I LOVE to watch my man in action. My daughter is taking lessons and her face just glows when she scores. Keeping it in the family so to speak.(grin) Of course a teen who is armed and has PMS is a chancy thing. LOL, but every woman should know how to take care of herself and just because I don't wrestle or street fight doesn't mean that my Fencing won't help me get away. Good foot and hand work. I would have no problems in doing real damage to an opponent.
